There’s nothing better than a full beach day — sun on your skin, salty air, and nowhere to be. But if you’ve ever shown up unprepared, you know it can go from dreamy to chaotic fast.
Over time, I’ve figured out exactly what I actually use (and what just takes up space). This is my go-to beach bag — simple, functional, and perfect for long summer days.
The Bikini (Obviously)
I always start with a suit I know I’ll feel good in all day.
Lately, I’ve been living in my reversible sets — they’re stretchy, supportive, and easy to move in, whether I’m swimming, laying out, or walking the beach. Plus, having two looks in one makes it feel like I packed more than I did.
An Oversized Button Down or Lightweight Layer
This is one of those things I’ll never skip.
It’s perfect for throwing on when you want a break from the sun, grabbing lunch, or just feeling a little more put together. I usually go for something slightly oversized because its the comfiest.
A Good Beach Towel
A towel for laying out, but also something I can wrap around if I’m walking around or heading to a beachside spot.
Reef-Safe Sunscreen
Non-negotiable.
I always bring a good sunscreen that I can reapply throughout the day. Bonus if it doesn’t leave that heavy, sticky feeling, because no one wants that.
A Hat + Sunglasses
The easiest way to elevate your entire beach look.
I always bring a pair of sunglasses I love and a simple hat, not only for the aesthetic, but for a little extra sun protection when I’ve had enough direct sun.
A Big Water Bottle
Between the sun and the salt, you get dehydrated way faster than you think. I always bring a big water bottle and keep it in the shade.
Snacks (That Won’t Melt Immediately)
Fruit, chips, or something you can throw in your bag and not worry about. Nothing worse than being hungry at the beach with no options.
A Claw Clip or Hair Tie
The small thing that makes a huge difference.
When your hair is salty, tangled, or just too hot, you’ll be glad you have it.
Lip Balm
I always bring a hydrating lip balm with me.
A Tote That Fits It All
The final piece.
I always go for a slightly oversized tote that I can throw everything into. Easy, durable, and fits the whole vibe.
The Bottom Line
You really don’t need a million things for the perfect beach day, just the right ones.
For me, it’s all about keeping it simple, feeling comfortable, and having pieces that actually work with you throughout the day.
